Le Prince Noir was originally a farm, built over 200 years ago in the style typical of the Perigord, with walls of golden sun-bleached limestone. The farmhouse and the two gîtes are quietly situated on top of a small hill, with panoramic views of the rolling hills of Dordogne. Our guests are free to wander in the 2 acres of grounds, amongst the Acacia trees giving lots of shade and enjoy our leisure facilities on site. Or you might feel like exploring, the area is perfect for cycling and quiet country walks.
We are just on the edge of the small village of Fonroque - only a five minute walk in the morning to get your warm croissants for breakfast, from the boulangerie. The village also has a small grocery shop and a café – ideal for a light lunch, or stopping for a cool drink. A French village that still has a ‘heart’ – you may even get the chance to join in the village meals in Fonroque, which take place during the summer months in the square.
Those looking for more activity will find the lovely bastide town of Eymet is just 4 kms away offering a range of shops, restaurants and bars. It’s a thriving centre especially on market days, with a popular evening market during the summer months. The historical city of Bergerac with a wealth of cultural events on offer during the summer months, is only 20minutes drive away.
At Le Prince Noir we can offer two newly refurbished gîtes, two in the converted barn, lovingly restored to retain many period features. And a fully-equipped independent apartment, Le Studio, created in the farmhouse. All the accommodation has its own individual private area where you can enjoy your meals outside if you wish. We have furnished them all to a high standard, trying to provide you with every home comfort ( and we’ve stayed in them all ourselves to check!).
There’s enough space here for everyone to do their own thing. There are plenty of sunloungers to relax on, with parasols, in the sheltered, lawned area beside the pool (this is alarmed in accordance with French regulations.) If you are looking for a quiet spot to read your book, the shade of the lovely old Acacia trees is perfect. Try the French game of boules on our shady boules pitch, or we have a golf practice net, badminton/volley-ball net and table tennis table. And there’s a separate, well-equipped play area for the children, situated in a flat, grassy corner of the garden.

At Le Prince Noir we have done our best to provide you with an independent holiday that is relaxing in every way. Enjoy slowing down to the French pace of life. We live on site, discreetly separate from our guests, and we are bilingual – happy to give you help and advice should you need it.
You may wish to make the most of being in one of the leading wine-producing regions of France. We can recommend local vineyards for wine-tasting.
We provide a Starter Pack in your gîte, with a range of basic food items, all included in your holiday price. Don’t forget some French supermarkets close on Sundays, so if you need any extra shopping please let us know.
Also, if required we can offer you a home-cooked, pre-prepared meal which can be waiting for you in the fridge of your gîte, for you to serve yourself on the evening of your arrival. So you don’t have to think about food after your journey!
Arrival meals need to be ordered in advance, so ask us to send you our reasonably-priced menu, when you complete the booking form for your holiday. And we give you a free bottle of wine with each Arrival Meal – with our compliments!
Your holiday starts here!
